Carolus-Brunnen
Der Carolus-Brunnen steht am Wendelsplatz im Frankfurter Stadtteil Sachsenhausen und gehört zur öffentlichen Kunst der Stadt. Fritz Boehle schuf die eiserne Figur des Kaisers Karl.
Das Werk zeigt Karl den Großen und war ursprünglich als Denkmalbrunnen für die neue Mainbrücke vorgesehen. Der geplante Standort an der Brücke wurde jedoch nicht verwirklicht.
1965 ließ die Binding-Brauerei die Statue in Eisen gießen und vor ihrem Verwaltungsgebäude in Sachsenhausen aufstellen. Im Jahr 1976 kam die Statue an den Wendelsplatz.
Dort fließt kein Wasser mehr durch den Brunnen, während Erde im Becken Pflanzen Raum gibt. Der Eintrag beschreibt das Objekt als rollstuhlgerecht.
Boehle wurde 1873 in Emmendingen geboren, zog früh nach Frankfurt und studierte am Städelschen Kunstinstitut. Die Werke Albrecht Dürers beeinflussten seine künstlerische Ausbildung.
Ein Plastilinmodell blieb erhalten, nachdem der ursprüngliche Plan für den Brunnen nicht umgesetzt worden war. Carolus wurde später zum Etikett eines Starkbiers.
Boehles Werk steht für einen traditionellen Stil und seinen Einfluss auf die Frankfurter Kunstszene. In Sachsenhausen erinnern außerdem der Boehlepark und eine Straße an den Künstler.
