Carolus-Brunnen
Il Carolus-Brunnen è una scultura di Fritz Boehle che raffigura Carlo Magno nel quartiere Sachsenhausen di Francoforte. L’opera si trova oggi presso Wendelsplatz, a Sachsenhausen.
Boehle concepì la statua nel 1928 come monumento per il nuovo ponte sul Meno, in alternativa a un’altra statua equestre dell’imperatore. Il progetto originario non venne realizzato. Nel 1965 la Binding-Brauerei fece fondere la statua in ferro e la collocò davanti al proprio edificio amministrativo. Nel 1976 l’opera raggiunse la posizione attuale durante una festa della fontana. Il bacino non contiene più acqua. La terra ospita piante nel vecchio bacino della fontana.
Boehle studiò al Städelsches Kunstinstitut e risentì dell’influenza di Albrecht Dürer. Il suo lavoro segue uno stile tradizionale. La statua diede inoltre il nome alla birra forte Carolus della Binding-Brauerei. Il luogo risulta accessibile alle persone in sedia a rotelle.
