Ni&Tyve

Ni&Tyve is a restaurant in a historic wooden villa near the Royal Palace gardens in Oslo. The wooden villa was completed in 1847.

Its design is attributed to Hans Linstow, who also worked on the Royal Palace. Composer Halfdan Kjerulf lived there during the 1850s.

Later, the house belonged to car importer Bertel O. Steen and his family. Heritage protection followed in 2002, after years when the villa stood empty.

Restoration preserved historic rooms while allowing modern installations to be removed. One floor recalls the Steen family through photographs and automotive memorabilia.

Another floor evokes the villa’s nineteenth-century origins with warm, romantic decoration. Ni&Tyve serves classic Norwegian and European dishes, including fish, game, duck, and entrecôte.

Lunch examples include matjes herring, smoked salmon, mussels, pulled pork, and hamburgers. Desserts have included pumpkin cake with purée and sea buckthorn sorbet.

Leather chairs, soft sofas, golden-brown tones, and vintage car porcelain shape the interior. The garden seating area echoes the villa’s original grounds.

Private dining rooms accommodate group occasions and business dinners within the restored house. Ni&Tyve connects Oslo’s architectural history with a contemporary restaurant setting.
