ドイツ・シュトゥットガルトの中心部、ヴュルテンベルク州立劇場のクラインハウス前に、抽象彫刻『ベヴェグングII(Bewegung II)』が立っている。作者はウィーン出身の芸術家ヴァンダー・ベルトーニで、素材には通称ニロ鋼と呼ばれるステンレス鋼が使われている。街の中心という場所柄、通りかかる人なら誰もがこの作品と出会うことになる。
制作は1960年から1961年にかけて進められ、完成した作品は1961年の連邦庭園博覧会(ブンデスガルテンシャウ)でお披露目された。寸法は8メートル×4メートル×4メートルにおよぶ。ベルトーニがねらったのは、「運動」という抽象的な概念を、目で見て確かめられる具体的なかたちへ移し替えることだった。
公共空間に据えられた抽象彫刻としては、この街で最初の事例とされる。シュトゥットガルトはこの導入を通じて、国際的で開かれた都市という姿を示そうとした。作品の所有者は、州の資産と建築を管理するVermögen und Bau Baden-Württembergで、公共の場に芸術を織り込むという市の取り組みの一部を、この彫刻は長く担ってきた。庭園博で幕を開けた1961年から、劇場の玄関先に立つ鋼のフォルムは、60年以上にわたり行き交う人々を出迎え続けている。
