슈투트가르트 도심 미테, 뷔르템베르크 주립극장의 클라이네스 하우스 앞에 은빛 강철 조각이 서 있습니다. Bewegung II는 빈 출신 예술가 반더 베르토니가 빚은 추상 조각입니다. 극장을 찾는 관객도 길을 가는 행인도 이 형상 곁을 스쳐 갑니다.
작가는 이 형태를 1960년과 1961년 사이에 설계하고, 작품은 1961년 분데스가르텐샤우, 곧 연방정원박람회에서 첫선을 보입니다. 재료는 녹이 슬지 않는 스테인리스강, 이른바 니로 강입니다. 전체 치수는 한 방향으로 8미터, 나머지 두 방향으로 각 4미터에 이릅니다. 작가가 노린 것은 움직임이라는 추상 개념을 손에 잡히는 모습으로 옮기는 일입니다. 슈투트가르트가 공공 공간에 내세운 첫 추상 조형물인 만큼, 국제적이고 개방적인 도시라는 선언이 이 작품에 담겨 있습니다. 소유주는 바덴뷔르템베르크 주의 재산과 건축을 관장하는 Vermögen und Bau Baden-Württemberg입니다.
이 조각은 도시가 예술을 일상 공간으로 들이려는 더 큰 노력의 일부입니다. 거리의 예술이 문화 풍경을 가꾼다는 생각이 그 바탕에 흐릅니다. 매표 창구도 관람 시간표도 없으니, 극장을 향한 발걸음 곁에서 누구에게나 열려 있습니다. 낮 빛을 받아 빛나는 스테인리스 면이 움직임이라는 주제를 고스란히 드러냅니다.
