Ponte di Rialto
Ponte di Rialto przecina Canal Grande w Wenecji, łącząc handlowe Rialto z politycznym centrum San Marco. To najstarszy z czterech mostów nad główną arterią wodną miasta. Dzisiejsza kamienna konstrukcja ma pojedynczy łuk, zadaszone rampy i rzędy sklepów po obu stronach. Z centralnego portyku zobaczysz Canal Grande w obu kierunkach, a pod łukiem przepływają łodzie oraz miejskie autobusy wodne.
Pierwsza przeprawa powstała około 1173 roku jako pływający most Ponte della Moneta. W 1255 roku zastąpił ją most drewniany, którego środkową część można było podnosić dla wysokich statków. Po pożarach i zawaleniach wybrano kamienny projekt Antonia da Ponte, zrealizowany w latach 1588–1591. Tysiące drewnianych pali podtrzymują przyczółki na miękkim, aluwialnym gruncie. Sklepy na rampach zachowują funkcję obecną tutaj od XV wieku, kiedy ich czynsze pomagały finansować utrzymanie przeprawy. Przez stulecia był to jedyny stały pieszy most nad Canal Grande, a jego znaczenie utrwaliła także wzmianka Shylocka w Kupcu weneckim Szekspira.
