Windesheimer molen

Windesheimer molen stands beside the road between Zwolle and Wijhe, surrounded by the countryside of Overijssel. Its brick base supports an octagonal wooden body, traditional Old Dutch sails, and a low stage that makes it the lowest stellingmolen in the Netherlands.

The present mill rose in 1748 after storms destroyed earlier structures, while milling at this site reaches back to 1391. The Brothers of the Common Life received permission then to build a post mill near their monastery and use the wind for grain. Today, volunteers keep the national monument operating, and its sails span 22 metres above the countryside. Wholemeal flour is still ground here, with educational visits, demonstrations, and community activities connecting the machinery with local life.

A restoration in 2008 renewed the stage and rebuilt a barn beneath its eastern side. The mill remains one of only two preserved windmills in the municipality of Zwolle.
