Museumsgarten
Museumsgarten lies beside Überlingen’s municipal museum, housed in the Reichlin-von-Meldegg-Haus, a late-medieval patrician palace from 1462. A level plateau rises above the old town.
A geometric layout, broad lawns, and large chestnut trees create shade while Überlingen’s rooftops fill the view. Clear weather can reveal the Alps across Lake Constance. Sculptures from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries share the grounds with a large historic wine press, known as a Torkel. The press recalls the region’s long winemaking tradition. Jewish gravestones from several centuries document the changing history of Überlingen’s Jewish community, including stones among Baden-Württemberg’s oldest.
The garden belongs to Überlingen’s Garden Culture Path, which links several parks and gardens across the city. That route includes the Stadtgarten, Rosengarten, Badgarten, and Villengärten. Under the trees, open-air cinema and literary evenings sometimes take place.
