Place Jacques Duhamel

Place Jacques Duhamel occupies the fifth arrondissement of Paris, beside the Seine at Rue Maître-Albert and Quai de la Tournelle. From here, you look across the river towards the Île de la Cité. The view includes the choir of Notre-Dame Cathedral and the trees of Square Jean-XXIII. Those landmarks bring the riverbank and historic island together.

The square commemorates Jacques Duhamel, French Minister of Culture under President Georges Pompidou. He was born in 1924. His public life included cultural policy and service in the Resistance during the Second World War. He died in 1977. Paris officially inaugurated this small public space in 2016, connecting his legacy with a historic riverside setting. François Bayrou and members of the Duhamel family attended the inauguration ceremony.
