Ca n'Olesa
Ca n'Olesa is a historic manor house in Palma, with origins reaching back to the Gothic period. Its present form reflects Renaissance and Baroque remodelling.
Jaume Bruguera is associated with the building's Renaissance phase in the late sixteenth century. The façade has an asymmetrical layout.
A large round-arched doorway stands beside Renaissance windows and the Descós family coat of arms. Classical columns support medallions beside two ground-floor windows.
Sphinxes flank these windows, while larger upper windows accompany a series of late Gothic arches. A central patio forms the house's architectural focus.
This Mallorcan Baroque courtyard combines Ionic columns, low arches, geometric floor patterns, and an octagonal wellhead. A staircase leads to a gallery with three arches.
The Olesa crest overlooks the courtyard, which also contains a Renaissance window matching the exterior. The interiors preserve a substantial historical collection.
Tapestries, ceramics, glass, furniture, and paintings by Mesquida and Bestard fill the principal rooms. Some tapestries date from the fourteenth century.
Flemish tapestries from the seventeenth century draw on scenes associated with Rubens, including Romulus and Remus. Archaeological work found foundations connected with Roman Palma.
The walls also contain remnants of the earlier Descós house, adding another layer to Ca n'Olesa's architectural history. The property received Historic-Artistic Monument status in 1973.
