St. Josef

St. Josef is a Catholic parish church in Memmingen, Germany, built between 1927 and 1929. Its unplastered brick exterior encloses a twelve-bay rectangular nave with side aisles, exposed concrete walls, and wooden ceilings. The church serves as the main church of the Memmingen deanery.

Michael Kurz and Thomas Wechs designed the building, while the Memmingen firm Josef Hebel led its construction. A monumental chancel fresco by Albert Burkart shows Christ as ruler of the world. The church became a parish church in 1956, and later renovations added a parish hall and converted the crypt into a parish centre.

A Jann organ installed in 1980 replaced the original Steinmeyer instrument from 1929. Its design supports liturgical music and concerts, while bells cast by Rudolf Perner in 1988 replaced those confiscated during the Second World War.
