St. Leopold

St. Leopold stands in Linz’s Urfahr district as a Roman Catholic parish church with a strong architectural presence. Architect Gottfried Nobl shaped the church’s cross-shaped design. The building uses visible red brick, concrete bands, a flat roof, and rounded inner corners that open the cross outward. A fire damaged St. Leopold, and reconstruction followed. Inside, an octagonal arrangement brings together the baptismal chapel and weekday chapel on the ground floor. Stained-glass windows present the Stations of the Cross. Other works include a painted crucifix, a nativity scene, a charred eighteenth-century crucifix torso, and a courtyard mosaic. A Saint Leopold statue marks the facade. The parish complex also supports worship, a kindergarten, family activities, youth camps, and charitable Sternsinger work. The church belongs to the Urfahr parish community.
