Kiosque Gustave Eiffel de 1880

Kiosque Gustave Eiffel de 1880 stands in Grasse, France, as an iron-and-glass market pavilion from the late nineteenth century. Its open framework and glass panels bring together light, air, and decorative ironwork associated with the Belle Époque.

Gustave Eiffel is credited with the design, which replaced an earlier masonry market shelter during Grasse’s urban modernization. The structure sheltered daily fish stalls until the end of the nineteenth century. Residents once came here for fresh seafood and other goods, while nearby streets and buildings changed around the market. Artist workshops now occupy the former market area, giving the historic space a different working life.

Look closely at the ironwork: practical supports and decorative elements share the same frame. The pavilion connects Grasse’s commercial past with its present creative activity.
