Zu den zwei Helmen stands beside the main market, with sturdy stone walls and a rounded archway framing its entrance. Built in 1542, the house remains a striking survivor from the sixteenth century. Two small beer holes above the gateway reveal its former brewing purpose. Behind the historic façade, residential and commercial spaces continue to support everyday life.
During the sixteenth century, house brewing shaped local work, food and social life, while malt and hops passed through this entrance. Beer often offered safer refreshment than water. As larger breweries emerged in the nineteenth century, household brewing declined and this brewhouse lost its original role. The two openings above the gateway remain its clearest detail, linking market-day activity with centuries of brewing tradition.
