Rheinseilbahn
Rheinseilbahn carries you across the Rhine in Cologne, linking the areas beside Cologne Zoo and Flora. Small gondolas pass quietly above the river. The 935-metre route rises about 50 metres, opening views towards the city, Rheinpark and Claudius Therme. A one-way journey takes roughly six minutes.
Opened for the Bundesgartenschau in 1957, the crossing became Europe’s first cable car to cross a river. Theodor Heuss and Konrad Adenauer numbered among its early passengers. Construction of Zoobrücke forced a temporary closure and dismantling in the early 1960s. Rotated support towers enabled a revised route when the crossing reopened in 1966.
Each cabin holds four people, while around fifty cabins carry passengers along the historic route. Different motifs decorate the cabins, giving each small interior its own character. Since 2008, a special wedding cabin has hosted civil ceremonies above the Rhine. The listed monument’s carrying rope measures 45 millimetres across and withstands more than 230,000 kilograms.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Cologne. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
myTuur is a free city-guide app. Its tours are built from spots, and each spot carries a story that starts when you get there, to read or to listen to as you like.
