Dom - Hotel

Dom-Hotel stands beside Cologne Cathedral in central Cologne, placing nineteenth-century architecture against the city’s most recognisable landmark. The building provides wheelchair access for visitors.

A hotel first opened here in 1857, after Ignatz Theodor Metz acquired an existing building. The present structure, completed in 1893, is the third hotel building on this site. Second World War damage led to reconstruction during the 1950s, leaving the former roof storey absent from its silhouette. Later renovations have addressed both the interior and exterior, continuing a long sequence of changes in structure and management.

Earlier interiors contained 124 guest rooms and suites, with Italian black marble in the bathrooms. Le Merou served seafood, while a bar honoured regular guest Sir Peter Ustinov. Conference rooms, banquet spaces, a fitness centre and sauna extended the hotel’s facilities beyond accommodation. Its clearest visual detail remains the short distance between the entrance and Cologne Cathedral.
