Roßstraßenbrücke

Roßstraßenbrücke crosses the Spree in Berlin, linking Fischerinsel with the historic waterside district of Neu-Cölln. Its stone arch carries a road and walkways above the river. The crossing belongs among Berlin’s oldest Spree bridges. A former route towards Köpenick once passed through this point beside the Köpenicker Tor.

The present bridge rose in sandstone at the turn of the twentieth century. Its earlier wooden predecessor carried the name Köpenicker Brücke and allowed ships to pass through movable sections. War damage destroyed much of the structure, while later rebuilding removed the original decorations. A cast-iron plaque recalls fighting here during the March Revolution of 1848. Restoration between 2019 and 2021 added a steel-reinforced concrete slab, secured the stone railings internally, sealed cracks in the arch, and renewed the asphalt. Today, the protected monument retains its historic route across the Spree while supporting heavier vehicles.
