Krausnickpark

Krausnickpark is a public green space in Berlin’s Mitte district, set between Krausnickstraße, Oranienburger Straße, and Große Hamburger Straße. Today, playgrounds and community garden plots bring everyday activity to this quiet corner.

In the eighteenth century, fruit and vegetable cultivation occupied the surrounding land, alongside ornamental pleasure houses with exotic plants, flower beds, and statues. Around 1800, Verein Ressource transformed the property into a summer park called Therbursch’sche Ressource. A summer house appeared in 1842, followed by a ballroom in 1878, while bourgeois visitors enjoyed bowling, music, and a fountain. The Second World War destroyed much of the park and altered its later uses.

In 1959, one ballroom became a lecture hall for Humboldt University’s psychology faculty. Restoration plans began in 1997, and the restored grounds reopened to the public in 2007 with gardens, a playground, and renewed green space. A local residents’ association maintains the park, giving its shared gardens a distinctly cared-for character.
