Palau Robert

Palau Robert stands at the corner of Passeig de Gràcia and Avinguda Diagonal in Barcelona. Its late neoclassical façade uses stone from Montgrí. Completed in 1903, the residence was designed by Henry Grandpierre and Joan Martorell i Montells. Robert Robert i Surís commissioned it as his main home.

Ramon Oliva designed the surrounding gardens, which include palms brought from the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition. A Tasmanian fern grows among the varied trees and plants. The former mansion later housed the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Ministry of Culture during the Spanish Civil War. It became a public cultural centre with exhibition halls, a concert hall and a conference room in the former coach house.

Exhibitions explore Catalonia, photography, innovation, communication and wider cultural themes. La Lluna, a contemporary sculpture by Kiku Mistu, brings the gardens into the present. Public access extends to wheelchair users, while the gardens offer a green setting for reading and quiet pauses.

Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Barcelona. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.

What is myTuur?
