Färberturm
Färberturm stands in Augsburg on the grounds of the former Augsburger Kammgarn-Spinnerei, linking the city’s industrial heritage with its textile past. Its rectangular masonry base supports a wooden structure that rises about twelve metres, creating a clear, practical silhouette.
During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, bleachers and dyers used this tower to dry and air long strips of freshly dyed fabric. An open framework of rods surrounds the top, where wet cloth could hang in the air, while the hipped roof protected the structure from rain and snow. Inside, acoustic ceilings and a room-in-room cube reflect later renovations, while monument protection preserves the building’s historic character.
Look upwards and the original purpose becomes easy to picture: wooden supports, open rods and hanging cloth working together for drying.
