Campo de San Basegio
Campo de San Basegio ist ein öffentlicher Platz in Venedig und steht für eine typische Platzform der Lagunenstadt. Vor Ort heißt ein solcher Platz Campo. Campos unterscheiden sich von größeren, formelleren Piazze anderer italienischer Städte. In Venedig liegen sie in den Sestieri, darunter Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce und San Marco. Wohnhäuser säumen viele dieser Plätze. Kleine Geschäfte, Kirchen und Gemeinschaftsgebäude können das Umfeld ergänzen und den Alltag im Viertel sichtbar machen.
Solche Orte dienen als Treffpunkte. Kinder spielen dort, Nachbarn unterhalten sich, und Besucher finden Abstand zu belebteren touristischen Bereichen. Die offenen Flächen bilden einen Kontrast zu Venedigs engen Gassen, Kanälen und verwinkelten Wegen. Manche Campos besitzen einen Brunnen oder eine Bank. Kleine Bars können venezianische Snacks wie Cicheti anbieten, während am frühen Abend ein Aperitif zur Platzkultur gehört. Seit Jahrhunderten prägen solche Plätze das soziale und kulturelle Gefüge Venedigs. Von einem Campo führen Wege durch Seitengassen, über kleine Brücken und zu weiteren Ecken des Stadtteils. Dabei zeigt jeder Platz einen eigenen Charakter.
