Oratorio di San Ludovico
L’Oratorio di San Ludovico è una piccola chiesa veneziana del quartiere di Dorsoduro, risalente al XVI secolo. Le sue dimensioni riflettono l’origine assistenziale: apparteneva a un’istituzione destinata ad accogliere dodici uomini anziani senza moglie né figli. Qui la sobrietà dell’edificio racconta una Venezia fatta anche di cura, raccoglimento e vita comunitaria.
Dal 1996 Nuova Icona utilizza questo spazio per mostre d’arte ed eventi culturali. L’ambiente accoglie installazioni, video e performance, comprese opere presentate talvolta durante la Biennale di Venezia. Nel 2017 volontari italiani e stranieri lessero qui One Million Years (Reading) di On Kawara, seguendo volumi con date disposte per un milione di anni nel passato e nel futuro. Le voci riempirono l’antico spazio ecclesiastico con una dedica a chi ha vissuto e a chi morirà per ultimo.
Anche i lavori di Nástio Mosquito e Jinny Yu hanno portato immagini, suoni e riflessioni sulla migrazione. L’oratorio appartiene inoltre al percorso artistico San Trovaso–Zattere–IUAV, dove storia veneziana e ricerca contemporanea procedono insieme.
