's Leven Rad

's Leven Rad is a stone artwork on a building in Zwolle, with a golden wheel held by two cheerful figures. Its bright surface stands out against the façade and catches the attention of people passing through the street.

Han Prins designed the artwork, while Zwolle stonemason Henk Beernink produced it in 1976. Theo Runhaar commissioned the stone for Het Wijnhuis, honouring the building’s possible earlier connection with the name 's Levens Rad. The building had previously housed a jeweller, bicycle shop, shoemaker and lunchroom before taking on a hospitality function in the late 1970s.

The wheel represents life’s unpredictable movement between prosperity and adversity, while the figures bring a playful expression to that idea. A smaller stone above a first-floor window shows a man’s head, creating a second detail that belongs to the same design. Together, the stones suggest meeting good and bad times without losing your sense of self.
