Sonnenbad

Sonnenbad stands in Wenningstedt, a coastal town on the German island of Sylt. Three life-sized figures in bathing suits lounge on a small dune beside the promenade. Their relaxed poses bring an ordinary seaside moment into view, with the beach setting completing the scene.

Christel and Laura Lechner created the sculpture for their Alltagsmenschen series, which focuses on everyday people and familiar moments. The figures turn sunbathing into a quiet observation of coastal life. Their placement on the dune gives the scene a natural setting, while the bathing attire connects it directly with Sylt’s seaside atmosphere.

The dune remains part of the artwork’s setting and should be viewed from a distance. Around Wenningstedt, further Alltagsmenschen sculptures continue this encounter between daily life and public space.
