Heilig-Geist-Kirche
Heilig-Geist-Kirche stands in a quiet corner of the old town, with a compact nave and a tower crowned by an octagonal stage and onion dome. The building began after 1475 as the chapel of a medieval hospital founded in 1470.
Its strongest transformation came between 1720 and 1734, when Matthias Lutz created new altars and Ferdinand Fischer raised the tower in 1729. A gallery on two Tuscan oak columns joined the interior, while a 1594 account records altars dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Saint Sebastian, and Saint Dionysius with his companions. The plain west façade and hipped roof date from 1837, after the adjoining almshouse was demolished. Restoration in 1974 uncovered remains of an earlier building beneath the choir, along with bones later identified as animal bones.
Look up at the octagon, then turn towards the simple western wall: together they show how this hospital chapel changed across five centuries.
