Xhamia e Muradis
Xhamia e Muradis stands on a central square in Vlora, with roads surrounding it on all four sides. Its dome rests on a raised polygonal base beside an approximately eighteen-metre minaret. The main building measures about ten to eleven square metres.
Construction began in 1537 and finished in 1542 under Ottoman rule. Mimar Sinan designed the mosque during Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent’s reign. Its arched windows and triangular upper wall forms accompany layered bricks in two contrasting colours. Larger white, chiselled stones give the minaret a different texture and appearance.
The original front portico, known as a hajati, has disappeared, while the main structure preserves its historic design. Xhamia e Muradis remains a protected Cultural Monument of Albania and one of Vlora’s few sixteenth-century buildings.
