Teatri Petro Marko

Teatri Petro Marko stands in Vlora, Albania, as a theatre shaped by the city’s long cultural life. Its current building dates from 1977 and holds about 330 seats, giving you a clear setting for Albanian drama, international classics, and stage performances.

Amateur theatre began here in 1909 through the patriotic club Labëria, with local productions including Mihal Grameno’s Vdekja e Pirros. Professional theatre took shape in November 1962, when actors led by Kujtim Spahivogli performed Korneichuk’s Fundosja e skuadrës. Two years later, Sulejman Pitarka’s Familja e peshkatarit became the first Albanian drama presented on this stage. More than 230 premieres have followed, including works by Agolli, Kadare, Shakespeare, Molière, Brecht, Chekhov, and Sartre.

The troupe has performed across Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, France, and Italy, while national festivals have brought awards for acting, directing, and set design. Alongside the main company, an estrade group includes four well-known Vlora parodists, adding a comic strand to the theatre’s programme.
