Kirche zum Hl. Severin
Kirche zum Hl. Severin is a Roman Catholic parish church in Sievering, Vienna’s nineteenth district, Döbling. Its recorded history begins with a chapel reference from 1330.
Sievering became an independent parish in 1348, while a 1421 document names Saint Andrew as its original patron. Saint Severin later became the church’s namesake. The building preserves Gothic features in its nave, buttressed choir, Mount of Olives scene, and pelican sculpture. A Baroque vault spans the four-bay hall. The interior also contains a sixteenth-century baptismal font, a Baroque pulpit, and altars dedicated to Severin, Andrew, and the Madonna. The pulpit depicts the four Evangelists and Christ the Redeemer.
A major renovation in 1896 reshaped the west façade, southern portal, tower, and roof in a Gothic style. The church façade incorporates old gravestones from the former cemetery. A park beside the church contains a 1692 Baroque Trinity column and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The church is wheelchair accessible and remains connected with the Sievering parish.
