Bermudadreieck

Bermudadreieck occupies Vienna’s historic centre, at the northeastern entrance to the Innere Stadt. Between Schwedenplatz, Morzinplatz, Rabensteig, Seitenstettengasse, Judengasse and Ruprechtsplatz, bars and restaurants fill streets beside centuries-old landmarks.

Roman Vindobona once held its eastern legionary camp here, while the area later became a Jewish commercial district centred on textile wholesale. The Stadttempel, Vienna’s main synagogue, opened on Seitenstettengasse in 1826, and Saint Rupert’s Church stands on Ruprechtsplatz as one of the city’s oldest sacred buildings. Nightlife grew during the 1970s and 1980s, after Sepp Fischer opened Krah, Krah in an old textile house on Rabensteig in 1980. Kaktus Bar, Roter Engel, Ma Pitom, Plem Plem and Salzamt followed, creating a compact meeting place for locals, students and visitors.

Evenings become especially lively at weekends, when people gather around venues such as Bermuda Bräu, First Floor Bar and Magazin Bar. Three ravens on the Krah, Krah emblem recall the former inn Zu den drei Raben, leaving a small historical detail among the district’s crowded nightlife streets.
