Villa Carlesso

Villa Carlesso is a Venetian villa in Favorita, north of Mestre, on Terraglio’s eastern side. The straight road connects Mestre with Treviso. Its compact rectangular house rises across three levels, with four façades arranged around evenly spaced doors and windows. A small eastern annex adds an arched ground-floor portico and upper windows with straight lintels.

The property grew from buildings belonging to a hospital-monastery complex beside the demolished church of San Giuliano. The hospice ended in the seventeenth century. The complex then became a main residence, and Giambattista Raine reshaped its appearance after buying it in 1810. Road widening removed part of the building in 1817. Later owners included the Della Mora, Pozzobon and Carlesso families, while the Della Mora family added the detached eastern structure.

Painted ochre stripes, red floral motifs and festoons run across the façades, framing the openings. The south front mirrors the rear. Five vertical axes and three decorated horizontal bands organise the front, while a French door opens onto an iron balcony. Square attic windows and a moulded stone cornice complete the composition.
