Neptuno

Neptuno is an art sculpture by Luis Arencibia, positioned on volcanic rock off Melenara Beach in Spain. The sea surrounds Neptuno at the edge of Melenara Beach.

His figure rises from the water, creating a landmark whose visible form changes as the tide moves. The tide hides parts of Neptuno beneath the waves. A raised trident gives the statue a clear silhouette against the water. Storm damage removed an arm and the trident.

Restoration replaced those elements, added stainless steel reinforcement inside, and welded the sculpture to its rocky base. The base carries grease to discourage people from climbing. Wave impact and human contact have shaped the work's condition, while the sea remains part of its appearance.

Swimmers and passersby see Neptuno from the water. Luis Arencibia placed the figure where waves can conceal and reveal its body during each changing tide. The seaside setting makes each view look different. Neptuno therefore joins sculpture, shoreline, volcanic stone and moving seawater in one visible composition.
