Tiefbunker Feuerbach
Tiefbunker Feuerbach lies underground in Stuttgart as a protected bunker and museum. Its concrete rooms show how the city prepared for air raids, postwar displacement and nuclear conflict.
Built in 1940 and 1941 under the Führer Immediate Program, the shelter first served people during wartime bombing. After 1945, bombed-out residents and refugees from eastern territories lived here, followed by Italian Bosch workers until the late 1960s. Cold War planners then fitted the bunker for long stays during a nuclear conflict, with 300 bunk beds and 800 folding seats. An exhibition by Verein Schutzbauten Stuttgart e.V. now presents survival and everyday life inside a nuclear shelter, while guided tours explain the harsh conditions underground.
One detail brings the scale into focus: 800 folding seats stood alongside the 300 beds. The bunker also appeared as a filming location for SOKO Stuttgart in 2013.
