Bernhardine Salomon

Bernhardine Salomon is a Stolperstein set into a pavement in Stuttgart, linking an ordinary street to Nazi persecution. A brass plaque marks the last freely chosen residence or workplace of a victim. The plaque carries Bernhardine Salomon’s name and life dates, though no further biographical details appear here.

Gunter Demnig began the Stolpersteine project in 1992, and handcrafted stones now appear across Germany and Europe. Each memorial uses a ten-centimetre concrete cube with a brass surface. Local schoolchildren, historians and relatives often research the information, bringing individual lives into everyday surroundings. This small square of metal turns a walk through Stuttgart into a direct encounter with remembrance.
