Paulskirche

Paulskirche rises above the Pfaffenteich in Schwerin as a Neo-Gothic church built between 1863 and 1869. The elevated site, steel roof truss and weather-resistant clinker tracery show the construction methods of its era.

Theodor Krüger designed the church according to principles of the Eisenach Regulativ, while original furnishings preserve its nineteenth-century character. Stained-glass windows by Gustav Stever and Ernst Gillmeister trace salvation from Paradise to the Last Judgment. Karl Gottfried Pfannschmidt’s altar triptych presents the birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, and the carved pulpit shows the four Evangelists, Moses and Paul.

Friedrich Friese III’s organ has 31 stops across two manuals and a pedal, producing a powerful, warm sound for Romantic compositions. Since 2024, the church has formed part of the Schwerin Residence Ensemble UNESCO World Heritage site.
