Kollegiengebäude II
Kollegiengebäude II stands in Schwerin as a late-classical government building, constructed between 1890 and 1892. Georg Daniel gave its three- to four-storey form a rectangular courtyard, mezzanine floor, and four gabled projections.
A passage called the “Beamtenlaufbahn” connects it with Kollegiengebäude I, now the State Chancellery. The site first held a Franciscan monastery dating from around 1236, while the present building later housed ministries and successive state administrations. Since 2012, the Ombudsman of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has also worked here, and the building forms part of the Residenzensemble Schwerin UNESCO World Heritage site.
The passage’s name, meaning “civil servant’s runway,” adds a memorable touch to this official architectural setting.
