Mosaics of Christ, the apostles and saints connect the room’s royal symbolism with religious imagery. A crown-shaped chandelier hangs above the marble floor. No throne was installed because Ludwig II died before the castle was completed. A raised marble platform marks its intended position at the end of the hall.

Painted columns imitate precious stone, while stained-glass windows send coloured light into the ceremonial space. Upper balconies provided places where musicians could play during ceremonies. The design combines Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic elements within nineteenth-century historicism. The room reflects Ludwig’s interest in medieval legends, sacred imagery and royal ceremony. A grand staircase connects the hall with the rest of Neuschwanstein Castle. Its mosaics, marble steps, columns and chandelier preserve the visual language planned for this unfinished royal residence.
