Raiņa piemineklis
Raiņa piemineklis stands in Riga, Latvia, as a public sculpture dedicated to the Latvian poet Rainis. A seated male figure rests on a faceted rocky block. Pinkish-grey polished Karelian granite gives the figure a durable surface and subtle variations in colour. A low block carries the inscription “Rainis”.
Unveiled during Latvia’s first Poetry Days, the work joined literary celebration with public art. Architect Dzintars Driba shaped the surrounding structure. Kārlis Zemdega created the original design, later realised by sculptors Laimonis Blumbergs and Aivars Gulbis. A 2007 restoration preserved the sculpture’s condition.
Poetry readings and gatherings bring cultural life to this wheelchair-accessible Riga landmark. Its overall height reaches about five metres above the ground.
