Hāmaņa muiža

Hamann Manor stands in Riga’s Āgenskalns district, among wooden architecture and green creative surroundings. It is a state-protected architectural monument of national significance. Built in 1886 as Karl Hermann Rahlenbeck’s private home, the wooden house belonged to a wire-factory director. A small tower, columns, porch, baroque details, decorative chimneys, and a terrace shaped its original design.

The building later held a pencil factory, firewood shop, cinema, laundry, shop, and apartments. A cinema with roughly 300 seats opened beside Baldones Street in 1917. Fire damaged about 200 square metres in 2007, collapsing the roof and burning the walls. Emergency conservation work followed, while reconstruction began after a new owner acquired the property in 2019.

The restored building now houses Putnu dārzs, a private preschool using the Reggio Emilia educational approach. Coworking spaces provide desks, meeting rooms, private offices, fast internet, lockers, coffee, and a lounge. A former manor shaped by industrial Riga now supports children, entrepreneurs, and small businesses beneath its restored roof.
