St. Martin

St. Martin is a late Romanesque church in Germany, with sturdy stone walls and a hipped roof. Its core reaches back to the thirteenth century. A tall façade tower rises above the church, carrying distinctive stepped gables that sharpen the building’s outline. The choir belongs to the fourteenth century, adding a later medieval layer to the original structure.

In the early eighteenth century, the nave was rebuilt, changing the interior while preserving older fabric. The interior still carries proportions shaped by that rebuilding. A Baroque cemetery wall surrounds the church, and its gabled gate marks a clear threshold. Romanesque walls, a Gothic choir, and Baroque enclosure bring three building periods together here. The stepped gables remain the most memorable detail, rising above the solid stone architecture.
