Villa Jacobs

Villa Jacobs stands in Potsdam, slightly above the Jungfernsee, with a Tuscan country-house design. Ludwig Persius built it in 1835 for sugar manufacturer Ludwig Jacobs. Its eight-hectare landscape park was designed by landscape architect Peter Josef Lenné. Schloss Klein Glienicke frames the park as a visual focal point within the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Pfingstberg carries a viticultural tradition reaching back to Alberto Bertini’s eighteenth-century table grapes. Clay soil supports Pinot varieties, and a rare old grape variety returned to the vineyard in 2011. Handwork guides cultivation, while a Mosel winemaker develops the red wine at Erdener Prälat.

The building later housed Prince Alexander, Kaiser Wilhelm II, and a Soviet army kindergarten. After abandonment near the Berlin Wall, fire destroyed the structure in 1981. Stefan Ludes acquired the property in 2005 and 2006, then completed reconstruction to the original plans in 2008. The residence and café now stand as a protected historical monument beside the open waterfront path.
