Staudengarten

The Staudengarten presents Karl Foerster’s ideas through perennial beds, natural sections and a carefully composed garden landscape.

Foerster was a gardener, breeder and garden philosopher. Geometric beds contrast with a heath garden, an open woodland edge and a semi-shaded rock garden. Neatly trimmed boxwood hedges frame the formal planting. At the centre, a turquoise wooden pergola gives the garden a vivid focal point beside the flowering beds. Its blue changes with sunlight, viewpoint and cloud. The design draws on Foerster’s writing and presents selected perennials through colour combinations such as sky blue, pink and white. Solitary shrubs extend the garden’s visual interest beyond the main flowering season. Forest clearings, lawn bays and deep shade blend the planted scenes into the surrounding Marzahn park landscape. The garden has no buildings to interrupt its planted views. This open arrangement keeps the perennials and shrubs visible across a setting shaped by contrasting garden forms. Its beds combine ordered geometry with freely shaped planting. The result joins formal borders, naturalistic scenes and a pergola whose colour anchors the entire composition. Karl Foerster’s legacy remains visible in every bed.
