İsmail Yaşar

Ismail Yaşar is remembered in Nuremberg, Germany, through a site connected to the NSU murders, a series of racist killings by a neo-Nazi group. The surrounding city combines medieval architecture with a difficult chapter in recent German history.

Yaşar owned a kebab shop and was found dead on 9 June 2005, with five gunshot wounds. He became the third NSU victim killed in Nuremberg, among ten people murdered across Germany between 2000 and 2007. Investigators initially pursued organised crime within immigrant communities, while the perpetrators remained unidentified until 2011.

The case later exposed failures in police and intelligence work, alongside allegations of institutional racism. His death remains a concrete reminder of the human cost of extremist violence.
