Burggarten

Burggarten lies within Nuremberg’s Kaiserburg, where garden paths, a broad lawn, and planted beds meet the historic castle setting. From the grounds, you can see across Nuremberg’s rooftops and streets. Quiet paths connect several sections, creating a calm route through the garden’s natural and historical surroundings.

Maria Sibylla Merian lived in Nuremberg for fourteen years, and her studies guide the themed planting. Her illustrated work inspires beds containing plants shown in her publications and drawings. Tropical plants connected with her travels to South America add a distinctive detail. An insect hotel shelters wild bees, beetles, and other insects among the planted areas.

The Heidenturm and Himmelsstallung stand close by, linking the garden to the Kaiserburg’s history. A redesign in 2013 introduced modern elements while preserving its historical character. The garden’s views, plant beds, and insect habitat bring Merian’s interest in nature into a castle setting. Wedding receptions can also take place among the paths, lawn, and flowering beds.
