Église de la Madone des Grâces

Église de la Madone des Grâces stands in Nice as a neoclassical church with a façade inspired by ancient Greek temples. Ionic columns support its triangular pediment, while a white marble statue of Religion crowns the structure above Nice’s coat of arms.

Construction followed a 1832 vow made during a cholera epidemic, and Carlo Mosca presented the plans in 1840. Built between 1836 and 1852, the church opened with a nave measuring 48 metres long and 10 metres wide. Inside, decoration from the former Discalced Augustinian convent accompanies Gaspard Édouard Hauser’s 1862 painting of Notre-Dame des Grâces above the main altar.

The Festa dóu Vœu links the church to Nice’s civic and religious traditions through an annual procession led by the mayor. A sculpture group created in 1866 weighs nearly 700 kilograms, while a lighter Tyrolean statue serves the procession.
