Berlioz
Hotel Villa Berlioz stands in a lively Nice neighbourhood beside the main railway station. Its air-conditioned rooms combine modern furnishings, warm colours and wooden details. Shops, cafés and restaurants fill the surrounding streets, while the old town, Promenade des Anglais and museums lie within the city’s wider landscape.
Hector Berlioz found a different kind of refuge in Nice during the nineteenth century. He first stayed here in 1831, when the sea, mountains and French-speaking streets helped him recover from personal distress. A sea-view room, coastal walks, ruins and passing ships accompanied his return to composition. He worked on the overture inspired by King Lear and began Rob Roy during that visit.
He came back in 1844 and composed an overture first called La Tour de Nice, later renamed Le Corsaire. Waves provided the most vivid detail: Berlioz described falling asleep to their sound beside the Mediterranean.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Nice. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
