St. Paul
St. Paul is a Catholic church in Munich’s Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt district, shaped by Gothic Revival architecture. Its limestone exterior comes from Ansbach, while Upper Bavarian tuff lines the interior and brick forms the core structure.
Georg von Hauberrisser designed the church, which took fourteen years to build, from 1892 to 1906. The 97-metre main tower draws inspiration from Frankfurt Cathedral and offers views across the Oktoberfest grounds when visitors can access it. World War Two caused heavy damage, and a Convair C-131D Samaritan struck the steeple in December 1960, killing 52 people.
Inside, a high altar once stood on slender columns beneath an eleven-metre-high stone canopy.
