Palais Moy

Palais Moy stands at the corner of Odeonsplatz and Brienner Straße in Munich, beside the Theatine Church. Leo von Klenze designed the neoclassical palace in the early 1820s, with symmetrical façades and a height aligned to the church tower’s great pilasters.

Franz Xaver Trautmann, a jeweller, became its first owner after its construction for nobility. Later owners included Aloys Graf von Arco-Stepperg and the Moy de Sons family. Bombing in December 1944 destroyed the lavish interior, though photographs had documented it beforehand. Georg Hellmuth Winkler led reconstruction from 1950 to 1952, restoring the façade while adding larger arched ground-floor windows for commercial spaces.

The restored building still forms a carefully balanced architectural ensemble with the Theatine Church.
