Gustav Landauer
Gustav Landauer stands at Munich’s Waldfriedhof, where a memorial marks the philosopher, writer and revolutionary. The site recalls his role in anarchist and socialist movements during early twentieth-century Germany.
His daughter initiated the first monument in 1922, with support from the Freie Arbeiter-Union Deutschlands. Authorities prohibited its planned unveiling in May 1925, fearing disorder around the gathering. National Socialists destroyed the monument in 1933, removing a physical reminder of his political influence. A replacement appeared at the same location in 2017.
Two split basalt blocks form the present memorial, joined by hardened glass. Landauer’s 1925 inscription runs through that glass, while wheelchair access makes the site reachable to more visitors.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Munich. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
