Alte Utting

Alte Utting brings a decommissioned passenger ship to a former railway bridge near Munich’s Wholesale Market. Its decks hold a bar, restaurant, nightclub, music venue, and cabaret stage above the city.

Built in 1949 as MS Utting, the vessel carried up to 400 passengers across Lake Ammersee. After decommissioning in 2016, Kulturverein Wannda e.V. brought the 144-ton ship to Munich during a night journey that closed the Autobahn. Static and safety requirements shaped the conversion before the former lake vessel became a cultural venue.

Food stalls serve Bavarian and international cuisine beside concerts, cabaret, and nightlife. The ship’s position on an old railway bridge gives every visit an unmistakable detail: a passenger vessel resting above the city instead of water.
