Allerheiligenkirche am Kreuz

Allerheiligenkirche am Kreuz stands in Munich as a historic cemetery church, with unadorned brickwork and a tall bell tower. Jörg von Halsbach built it in 1478.

Its position at a significant crossroads made it the first church with a cemetery in the parish of St Peter. Gothic vaults remain visible above the building. From 1620, the interior adopted Baroque styling while preserving the nave’s Gothic vault and fragments of a fresco.

A Crucifix by Hans Leinberger brings Mannerist art into the church’s historical interior. Hans Rottenhammer painted the Apparition of the Virgin to Saint Augustine. Together, these works add two named artists and a vivid visual focus to the surviving Gothic and Baroque fabric.
